Ceilidh Weddings
The Canongate Cadjers specialise in Ceilidh Weddings having 10 years experience in providing your evening entertainment.
We have an expert Caller (Marina) who works the floor with a radio microphone which is by far the best way to get your guests involved and provide instructions for the various dances.
Questions & Answers:
We are frequently asked to provide information on what a typical programme would be for a "Ceilidh" Wedding.
While the choice and final decision is obviously yours, we find the following works really well.
First, Marina will organise the cutting of the wedding cake and photo opportunity for your guests then it’s over to the band who start the evening's proceedings in traditional fashion with the Bridal Waltz. This doesn’t have to be a waltz, indeed as it is the Bride & Groom's own musical choice, it can be a traditional Waltz or, as is more common now, a special piece of music on CD which we can play this through our P.A. system (or you can have both if you like, it is entirely your choice).
Once the formalities are complete, it's over to the fun part of the evening - the Ceilidh Dancing, with Marina providing instructions and lots of encouragement from the floor.
The programme which includes 'set' and 'couple' dances has been tried and tested and includes all the old favourites such as 'The Gay Gordons', 'Strip the Willow', 'The Dashing White Sergeant', 'Virginia Reel', 'Canadian Barn Dance', ‘Military Two Step’, 'Eightsome Reel' and some newer dances including 'The OXO Reel' and 'The Flying Scotsman.'
We finish in traditional style with an extended Orcadian "Strip the Willow" followed by "Auld Lang Syne" involving all the guests and traditional Scots fond farewells thereafter.
